Sergio Tu claims Taiwanese National Championships ITT
Equipo Kern Pharma rider was 4th in the Road Race
Taiwanese cyclist Sergio Tu was crowned Taiwanese National ITT Champion this Sunday. On a race held over a 33,2-kilometre course in Taitung, the Equipo Kern Pharma rider clocked an average speed of 48,4 km/h, keeping his closest rival at bay by a gap of 1’05”.
On Monday, in the Taiwanese National Road Race Championships, Sergio Tu displayed an aggressive performance that enabled him to reach the final kilometres amongst the seven riders that would play out for the win. It came down to a sprint on which Chen (MEM) claimed the title, with Tu crossing the finish line in fourth position.
“I’m really happy because these Taiwanese National Championships have been quite unique,” explains Sergio Tu. “Every year some of the country’s strongest cyclists miss the race, but this season pretty much everyone has been able to contend.”
“The road race has been very intense. I felt strong and decided to attack many times in order to make a difference, first to split the bunch and later to make it into the breakaway that went clear. I got some cramps in the final kilometres, but I overcame them and fought all the way to the line.”
“I feel proud of my performance and satisfied of the results I have achieved,” says Sergio Tu to sum up his performance. “My shape is very good right now, and that’s pretty surprising given how little I’ve raced this year.”
