U23 Spanish Cup winner joins Equipo Kern Pharma
Jordi López steps up after four-year stint in Equipo Lizarte
Jordi López (1998, Badalona – Barcelona) steps up from Equipo Lizarte, feeder team to Equipo Kern Pharma. He first joined the ‘pink’ ranks back in 2017, after completing his junior years at Huesca La Magia, junior team where riders like Marc Soler, Sergio Samitier, Jaime Castrillo and Roger Adrià also developed their talents. During his four years at Equipo Lizarte, Jordi López has shown an interesting consistency over a wide range of terrains and some terminal speed that has enabled him to deliver a solid number of results.
“The main quality of Jordi López is his hard-working ethos,” says Equipo Kern Pharma’s and Equipo Lizarte’s Team Manager, Juanjo Oroz. “He steps up a notch every season. Even though he shines the most uphill, he is able to perform consistently in any kind of race.”
“As a professional rider, we are convinced he will develop solidly over the years until becoming a contender in mountain stages. His attitude is and always has been excellent. Turning pro with us is far from being a gift we grant, but an earned reward to his excellent work.”
“I came to Equipo Lizarte as a very immature kid,” says Jordi López. “I was insecure about my prospects as a rider. Time, patience and hard work have made me develop both physically and mentally to become the rider I am now. The victory at the Copa de España sub23 has been a coming-of-age one for me.”
López already was a trainee rider for Equipo Kern Pharma this summer, and completed the Route de l’Occitanie with a very solid performance. “I was scared in the beginning, but once I pinned the number on I realised I was no different to any other rider in the bunch. I expect my adaptation to the pro ranks to be swift and quick.”
“In the pro ranks, I want to be the same rider I was as an amateur: a reliable cyclist, who can support teammates on every race and have a say in the harder ones. I’d love to be a similar rider to Michal Kwiatkowski or Jonathan Castroviejo – a honest, hard-working cyclist who is an asset to his team.”
