Jordi López takes the victory at Tour of Taiwan stage two
Equipo Kern Pharma’s rider claims his first pro win
After an outstanding performance Jordi López claimed the first victory of his career at Tour of Taiwan (Taiwan, UCI 2.1, 12-16/03). The Catalan rider delivered Equipo Kern Pharma its first triumph of the 2023 season.
The peloton battled hard to catch the breakaway but when the group got back together Urko Berrade was caught in a crash at 10 kilometres to go. That didn’t stop Equipo Kern Pharma, so Jordi López put in a promising attack in the last kilometre to win the stage.
“I’m thrilled. This is my first win as a professional cyclist so I couldn’t be happier. The team worked as one and after Berrade’s crash we were able to end the day successfully”, indicates Jordi López.
The stage winner explains: “There was a moment of calm that I saw as an opportunity. I decided to attack and I didn’t stopped until I had crossed the finish line”.
Pablo Urtasun, Equipo Kern Pharma’s sport director, shares his feelings after the stunning performance: “The team has worked perfectly from the start, so I’m very pleased with the result. Winning is a unique feeling, so we will try to enjoy the moment”.
Tour de Taiwán will continue tomorrow with a third stage that will cover 156,5 kilometres.
