The Blue Line Hotel at Villajoyosa (Alicante) hosted Equipo Kern Pharma’s 2022 team presentation this Wednesday 19th of January. The event was the end of an intense five-days training camp held in the province of Alicante.
For the 2022 season, Equipo Kern Pharma has put together a juvenile roster of 24 cyclists, being the youngest outfit in cycling’s top two tiers for second year in a row, with only 22,8 years old average.
The pharmaceutical team maintains nineteen riders from its 2021 roster, signs five Spanish prospects, four of them from its feeder team, Equipo Lizarte, and has one departure.
Concerning its racing schedule, Equipo Kern Pharma will focus again on Spanish and French races. The team will grow its presence on the Italian calendar, making its debut in Tour of the Alps, and will participate again in the national tours of Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia.
Once again, the pharmaceutical team will race some UCI WorldTour events like Volta a Catalunya and Liege-Bastogne-Liege, its first monument ever, and hopes to receive a wildcard for Vuelta a España.
“For Equipo Kern Pharma today is a really special day because we are about to start a promising season”, recognizes Juanjo Oroz, Team Manager of Equipo Kern Pharma. “We want to take our main sponsor, Kern Pharma, to the highest in the cycling elite. Our challenges are ambitious as we will fight to be invited to more WorldTour races. We feel excited and, even though it is a huge responsibility, I truly believe that we will make the most of it”.
Manolo Azcona, president of Asociación Deportiva Galibier, shares these feelings: “2022 may be the most important year in our history. We would like to show the world that we can race with the best teams in the world”.
Raúl Díaz-Varela, president of Kern Pharma asserts that “we are happy to continue sponsoring Equipo Kern Pharma for one more year”. “We are confident that in this 2022 season our riders will perform really well. Keeping the same values that define Kern Pharma’s DNA, they will reach the summit”.
