Equipo Kern Pharma withdraws from Volta a Catalunya
Two Equipo Kern Pharma team members returned positive results during the Covid-19 tests practised on Thursday night and Friday morning as part of the team’s health protocol for this Volta a Catalunya. Along with its main sponsor, Equipo Kern Pharma has decided to voluntarily quit the Catalan race and stop racing for a week, out of respect for the Volta a Catalunya, for the cycling world and for society as a whole. All the people that have been in close contact with these two positive cases will undergo a period of quarantine, as recommended by the health authorities.
“It is a hard choice, but also the most sensible one,” says Juanjo Oroz, Equipo Kern Pharma’s Team Manager. “It hurts to give up racing this Volta a Catalunya, but we prefer to be cautious and help keep the health of everyone, which is and remains our main priority. I’d like to thank all our riders, staffers and sponsors for their effort to observe and respect our health protocols. Luckily, we all are on good health and good spirits, and looking forward to resume racing as soon as it is possible and safe.”
Equipo Kern Pharma would like to underline and show gratitude to the organisers of the Volta a Catalunya and to the cycling world as a whole for their cooperation and understanding of our situation, and for their effort during the Covid-19 global pandemic.
